They were sitting by the bathtub fountain

I painted this couple, enjoying a warm snap that we had – it was beautiful that day. They were seated at a table right by the “Mannekin Pis” (replica of the famous Belgian “Pissing Boy”). It was such a good composition, I could have painted several different versions, if I had more time.

    I had my class view your website today. I’ve been teaching my Technical Illustration class sketching techniques for the past two weeks. We are at gesture sketching right now. I was telling them about how I sketched people in restaurants using a small sketchbook and a fountain pen. I too enjoy watching people. I then told them something amazing, I told them about you sketching people in coffee houses in oil. The students were indeed amazed.
    What a website. I plan on showing it to my students every semester in hopes of inspiring them to sketch. I don’t teach oil, acrylic, or watercolor but having my students sketch using a good spiral sketchbook and a 314 pencil will make my heart soar like an eagle.

    I love how you have such a distinct pallet. Is this from coffee-house lighting, or is it your own personal filter?
